Opposing Force sees you playing as Adrian Shephard, a Corporal in the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit (HECU) sent to clean up the mess during the Black Mesa incident, and kill everyone involved. HL2, Episodes, and Alyx will remain unspoiled, or tagged if they are to be spoiled.
I won’t spoil Black Mesa, mainly because the stuff to spoil there is how different Xen is compared to the original Half-Life. This thread is going to spoil the entirety of both Half-Life 1, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift. I’ll say up front, if you haven’t played Half-Life (or Black Mesa!) absolutely go play it, and definitely play it before you play either of these two games…just avoid Half-Life Source.
These allowed Valve to focus on their future games (read: Half-Life 2). In 1999 Opposing Force was released, and Blue Shift was released in 2001.
